1.How long have you been in business?
Ans: I have been in business for over 20 years. I have been a DJ for more than that. I’ve been in Myrtle Beach for 3 years.
2. Are you professional?
Ans: I am a full time DJ. I am fully insured and licensed in Myrtle Beach (required by law).
3. Are you flexible?
Ans: Of course. One of the things every DJ must be is flexible. Just recently, I was working in a venue here in Myrtle Beach when I was told they had prepared the wrong menu. Using my experience, I was able to “buy” enough time for the cook to prepare the correct menu.
4. What kind of music do you play?
Ans: What ever makes you happy. I have met other DJs both in Myrtle Beach and up north who are not willing to allow you to plan your music. With that being said, I suggest you consider the a simple formula that I learned from another DJ up north. That is, you pick 1/3 of the music, I pick 1/3 of the music and allow your guest to request the other 1/3. You can see most of my music library here on my website.
5. Do you have back up?
Ans: Yes. Anyone living in Myrtle Beach or anywhere along the Grand Strand will tell you accidents here happen often. That’s a rule that’s common in any tourist area. We’re not a big company, but there are 4 of us and we keep a technician on call if we have complete system melt down. Of course it would have to be complete because every DJ here at DJMarino carries full system backups with them.
6. Is there a travel fee?
Ans: Any of DJMarinos DJs will travel free of charge within 50 miles of Myrtle Beach.
7. What is your setup fee?
Ans: $0.00. Most DJs here in Myrtle Beach are professional enough to quote you a complete price. My quoted prices are complete. Our DJs arrive 60 – 90 minutes beforehand to ensure all equipment is working properly.
8. What do you wear?
Ans: Unless otherwise stated, always a Tux for a wedding and a sport coat for other functions. I have found too many Myrtle Beach DJs are casual without asking permission.
9. What so you need to reserve our date?
Ans: Like most Myrtle Beach DJs I require a signed contract (all written in real English) and a $100.00 deposit.
10. Do you have lighting?
Ans: I do. Most DJs do. However to keep costs low, I do not set up lighting as a matter of fact. There are people who prefer not to have the lighting and in some cases lighting can cause an epileptic event. I make it an option. Also, lighting is ineffective during the day in some of the beachside rooms here in Myrtle Beach like the Breakers and the Hilton.
11. Do you have party props?
Ans: Again we have the issue of personal choice. If you want them, they are available at an extra charge. Just follow the link to pick out the props you want --> CLICK HERE
12. How do you prepare for a wedding/party?
Ans: When I send you a contract, I enclose party request forms and/or a bridal info sheet. You can also find these planning forms here on my website. Also, don’t be afraid to be expressive. DJs do all kind of different things, especially here in Myrtle Beach. Please be sure to include your “don’t” wishes along with your “do” wishes.
13. Do you take credit cards?
Ans: I’m sorry, we only take checks, money orders and cash.
14. Do you “force” people to have a good time?
Ans: No I don’t. And I know exactly what you mean. There are DJs here in Myrtle Beach that are from the real old school that will go through the crowd and try and pull YOUR guests to the dance floor. Beware of this kind of DJ. He (or she) is the one that comes in and wants to make YOUR guests be HIS (or HER) crowd. My way is hopefully through professionalism. Working the crowd through the music and some spoken word.
15. Do you meet with clients before the Wedding/party?
Ans: If possible for weddings and mitzvahs yes. I say if possible because Myrtle Beach is a huge destination venue for weddings. I couldn’t meet with a bride from Texas whose wedding I am to DJ. However, with new technology, there is new hope. I am currently looking into software for video consultations.
16. Do you have other wedding professionals with whom you work regularly?
Ans: Yes I do. Please follow the link to my friends here in Myrtle Beach --> CLICK HERE
17. I see you charge more for a wedding than a regular party. Why?
Ans: That's a great question. While most "regular" parties are important, nothing is more important than a wedding. For that reason, I only book one wedding per day. I feel your day is all too important for me to be rushing in from another engagement. This way I can concentrate on your day alone. Wedding also take more preparation than regular parties.
18. I've seen DJ's that charge much less than you for a wedding. What's the
difference?
Ans: A: Another good question. There are many DJ's that work part time or as a hobby. While they can be outstanding entertainers, they work mostly alone. One of the 3 questions you must ask yourself is, are they reliable. If a part time DJ has an equipment malfunction, or his car breaks down, or God forbid a relative dies, what is his backup? Here at DJ Marino we carry full back up equipment on site with back up personnel on call. Another reason these DJ's are cheaper, is their lack of commitment. Do they have a business license, do they have insurance and how experienced are they? Are they a plumber by day, DJ by night? The answer is another question. Would you go to a dentist who only worked part time and whose full time job is a plumber? Gives a new meaning to the word pliers. Whether you hire me or anyone else, make sure they are a professional. Much better to be safe.
Please feel free to call me with any questions for a DJ in Myrtle Beach.
